On this R-data statistics page, you will find information about the michelson data set which pertains to Michelson's Speed of Light Data. The michelson data set is found in the MASS R package. You can load the michelson data set in R by issuing the following command at the console data("michelson"). This will load the data into a variable called michelson. If R says the michelson data set is not found, you can try installing the package by issuing this command install.packages("MASS") and then attempt to reload the data. If you need to download R, you can go to the R project website. You can download a CSV (comma separated values) version of the michelson R data set. The size of this file is about 1,280 bytes.
Michelson's Speed of Light Data
Measurements of the speed of light in air, made between 5th June and 2nd July, 1879. The data consists of five experiments, each consisting of 20 consecutive runs. The response is the speed of light in km/s, less 299000. The currently accepted value, on this scale of measurement, is 734.5.
The data frame contains the following components:
The experiment number, from 1 to 5.
The run number within each experiment.
